Wildlife Monitoring Workshop

You are invited to join the Nature Conservation Council’s Wildlife Habitat – Protect, Create, Monitor workshop, hosted on Gumbaynggirr

country at Mylestom by project partners the Coffs Harbour and District Local Aboriginal Land Council. This project aims to protect wildlife

and habitat features on the North Coast of NSW by providing training to land managers in identifying, tracking and monitoring wildlife to

support effective management practices.

 

There will be three days where you can learn different skills in fauna trapping, habitat identification and monitoring, and a workshop on

Friday 30 November that will outline all the methods used and different monitoring strategies depending on your objectives. You are

welcome to participate in as many days as you like.

 

Who should attend? Land managers, bush regenerators, Aboriginal Land Council and Indigenous Protected Area Rangers are encouraged

to attend.

 

Facilitation: Nature Conservation Council’s Bushfire Program will facilitate the workshop. Presenters sharing their passion and

understanding of fire ecology and fauna monitoring include:

  • Mark Graham and Kevin Taylor from the Nature Conservation Council.

 

Demonstration topics include:

 

·         Camera traps – how to set up and use

·         Elliott traps – small mammal trapping

·         Harp traps –  bat trapping

·         Pit-fall traps – for mammals, reptiles, invertebrates

·         Spotlighting & call playback – for nocturnal fauna

 

Location: Workshop held at Mylestom Hall, 18-20 River St, Mylestom. Survey meeting location tbc.

Catering: Morning tea and lunch provided for the workshop Friday 30 November.

Cost: $15-$25, check event page for tickets.
