Message Stick Walk

4000 Kms or 7.5 Months ago Alwyn Doolan began the Message Stick Walk from the Very North of Queensland.

Yesterday, Alwyn stopped into Coffs Harbour NSW to be welcomed by our Community.

A very special Welcoming with many Community Members joining us to welcome Alwyn to the Coffs Harbour area where he spent a few days with Troy Robinson and Lockie Skinner as they showed the Message Stick Man around our Beautiful Coastline.

The Welcoming began with Bularri Murray Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation’s Dance Troupe Wajaarr Ngaarlu walking Alwyn into the Event Space and inviting him to sit with our Community as Aunty Jenny Skinner and Wajaarr Ngaarlu do an Traditional welcome for the travelling brother.

After the Dancers, the Community had a BBQ Breakfast and yarn with Alwyn.

We all then moved under a tree as we had a chance to listen to the Message Stick Man about his journey thus far and what he would like to achieve by doing this walk.

For those that did attend it was very special and they had got a lot out of the messages that Alwyn had presented to us.

We want to thank the Community that came out yesterday, you was not only there in large numbers but the support you provided Alwyn was truly amazing to see. Whether it was Money, Accomodation, Food Supplies your efforts was noted and he expressed his deepest thanks to everyone that came on that day.

Also really want to thank Alwyn for stopping and spending time with our locals. You’re a very inspiring young man and you have been a pleasure to have here in this beautiful part of Gumbaynggirr Country.

MORE ABOUT THE MESSAGE STICK WALK

This is the Facebook campaign for Alwyn Doolan’s Message Stick Walk. He will be walking from Bamaga Queensland to Canberra ACT. Travelling south across the New South Wales boarder to Victoria and across to Canberra. Alwyn aims to inspire the younger generations of raising awareness of reconciliation by engaging with as many communities heading towards Canberra. Alwyn will eventually be seeking audience with the Prime Minister and the Australian Governments cabinet to submit a notice upon Treaty Re-Negotiations with First Nations People. The aftermath of the notice, Alwyn will walk from Canberra to Uluru to re address issues with a Nation Wide First Nations Conference. Estimated date to arrive in Canberra April 2019
