A great day was had on Tuesday in launching the “Garla-Nguurra” (Give back) trust fund. The fund is in honour of Julie Woodroffe, a co-founder of the Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance which the Land Council is a partner. The fund aims to support on country projects specifically for Gumbaynggirr women in their work in land management and culture.

The launch was at “Ganaygal” (Look-at-me-now-headland) and was attended by a number of Gumbaynggirr elders, rangers and community. Kaleesha Morris told the creation story of “Bularri Gawnggan.ba” – the two sisters who created the sea with their “ganay” (digging stick), and is specifically attached specifically to “Ganaygal”.
